Evaluation Question 4

RESEARCH - PHOTOSHOP

PLANNING - CELTX

CONSTRUCTION - PHOTOSHOP

CONSTRUCTION - IMOVIE

EVALUATION - PODCAST

PROBLEM AND CHALLENGE

Example

Technology - How to present acquired knowledge of technologies and how they help resolve problems

Function - how does trimming on the avid actually operate? trim the begin/end of the clips etc. wherever the insertion point is you are alerting the beginning of the clip.

Effect - the effect is a very refined manipulation of the clip in question. this is a very important editorial tool as it allows precision where the trimming is. because the trimming windows are juxtaposed it allows you to see the whether the two clips are matching. there is a play back on loop.

Significance - moving from one clip to the next clip across a cut and the focal point must be fluent from clip to clip. meaning that if the focal point is a character and they're for example sitting at a table, they must start in the same position in the next clip.

Construction - iMovie

Challenge - Once filming and gathering together all my footage, the next stage is the editing process and iMovie allows me to do this at a professional standard.

Technology - iMovie allows me to import my footage and cut it precisely to the milliseconds to allow detailed continuity. It also allows me to add titles, musical textures, non-diegetic sound and credits etc.

Function - When cutting the clips, it has a small box to show the footage from beginning to end to allow precise cuts and perfect continuity. Then you can drag them into order of how they will be placed in the film. The use of the visual editing menu allows me to change the contrast, brightness and saturation etc. which works well if any shots are over exposed or have a change in lighting. it also works well for the genre social realism as they usually use a very dull colour palette. But ultimately iMovie works well because of the simple layout and precise cutting tools that allows me to edit my film.

Effect - The effect this has is on the continuity of the film as it allows realist acting, direction and movement throughout the film as the clips that are being merged can be more precise. For example, if i was to have two clips of a girl standing up from sitting on her chair from two different angles, i would need to edit the clip so that whatever position she leaves the first frame in, she must enter the second frame in.

Significance - This allows my product to be much more professional and to industry standard. It also allows me to solve visual problems like over-exposed shots etc. and finally it also caters for the sound of the film as editing this is also included in the software.

Construction - Photoshop

Challenge - During the ancillary tasks of making a film poster and a film review, the layout is very important and is a key part of the success of the product. So with this in mind, Microsoft Word wouldn't suffice as the layout on this software is limited; whereas Photoshop allows a precise and free layout where text can be placed in any and every place on the canvas without trouble.

Technology - Photoshop allows for a professional format and layout of an industry standard type film poster as text can be placed anywhere, at any size and the border, direction and colour of the text can be changed etc. Also it allows for the image used in the film poster to be manipulated with the editing menu through tools such as saturation, brightness, contrast, curves and vibrance etc.

Function - It allows you to professionally access the intended visuals needed to represent the film with a variety of font and a variety of editing tools for the image.

Effect - Photoshop allows the poster to reach industry standard with the enormous amount of detailed tools it provides - ranging from grain to posterize. It encourages creativity, resulting in an aesthetically pleasing poster that will attract the intended audience.

Significance - Ultimately, Photoshop allows my product to be much more professional, aesthetically pleasing and explore many creative ideas.

Planning - Celtx

Challenge - Writing a script without a pre-set format or layout, meant that I would have to create my own on Microsoft Word. But Word isn't built for complex pieces of work like film scripts that have many specific layout requirements like margins and spacing etc.

Technology - Celtx provides a professional format and layout of an industry standard type script.

Function - It allows you to change the type of text you want such as; scene heading, action character, dialogue, parenthetical, transition shot or text. therefore by selecting one of these tab it allows you to write the script effectively and professionally.

Effect - Celtx makes the script very organised and has a universal layout for all readers, meaning that actors will have no problem when learning their lines. It achieves industrial film script format - every piece of spacing and margin is being just as it should be.

Significance - It allows my product to be much more professional due to the industrial format. Also, due to the format, you can tell that 1 page = 1 minute - this allows you to understand a rough estimate of how long the films running time will be.

Research - Powerpoint

Challenge - After researching using quantitative questionnaires, I wanted to present the results in an effective and efficient way so that statistical data could be easily analysed, which lead me to use Powerpoint as it combines with Excel to create pie charts and graphs etc.

Technology - Powerpoint and Excel combine to provide a pre-set layout and format where all that is needed is the insertion of the question, the answers and the results and then once all of these are filled in, the chart or graph will form.

Function - It allows me present and analyse the results in a simple and well structure layout enabling me to easily conclude, draw out vital pieces of information quickly and create action statements from the research.

Effect - The effect this has is that because it is collected neatly, this therefore allows easy access to research results as well as being presentable. It provides clarity to quantitative data that can sometimes be cluttered due to the vast amount of it as with quantitative data, there is usually more questions and participants in comparison to qualitative research.

Significance - This is significant to my research as the clarity of results is vital in the development process and finding out about my film's audience. On a whole, this effects the speed and efficiency of my research due to the clear well presented data.

Evaluation - Podcast

Challenge - After creating a script for a radio interview about the importance of knowing your audience, I then needed to present this in a similar form and style of a professionally rated media outlet. Therefore I chose to record the audio via Garageband and upload it using a web software called Podomatic.

Technology - Podomatic allows the audio to be presented visually in a neat and professional layout, as well as catering for the high quality sound as it doesn't compromise the quality when uploaded.

Function - It allows me present this radio interview in a professional media outlet styled format and being easily accessible to listen online, which is done by many media outlets.

Effect - The effect this has is that the radio interview becomes accessible online and therefore allowing for a wider consumption span as more potential audience can consume it. It also allows the radio interview to be presented visually and audibly professional.

Significance - The significance of this is that the radio interview becomes more authentic and natural as it is being consumed through high quality sound and creates a more accessible distribution of the interview.
