Camera Analysis - Shooting Mode's

General
  • Setting the calender will help when filming as it will create more information to work with post-production in terms of continuity.
  • Once turning it on, open the LCD monitor.
  • LCD Set allows color, contrast and brightness adjustments.
  • The recording lamp when 'On' allows the actors to know when a scene is being recorded and therefore so they stop talking. When it is set to 'Off' this can be used effectively if you need to record more natural shots and want to be subtle about it.
  • It has a 'still' mode that allows the camera to take pictures, this is useful for on site shooting and will therefore be more efficient and authentic when needing images for a film poster or review.
  • Be careful when the SD Card Access Lamp is on as doing any of the following could damage the contents or not allow you to film:
    • Switching off the power.
    • Removing the battery.
    • Removing the memory card.
    • Shaking or striking the camera.
  • When 'CHECK CARD' is displayed on the screen, remove the SD Card and re-insert it.

AUTO Mode
  • To enter this mode, switch the MANUAL/AUTO button to AUTO.
  • When in AUTO mode, the focus, white balance, shutter speed, gain and iris will naturally adjust.
  • Face framing is set to ALL and multiple subjects are detected.
  • Formatting SD Card:
    • Press the MENU button.
    • Click YES for CARD FORMAT in the setting menu OTHER FUNCTIONS screen.
    • Click YES on the conformation screen.
    • Exit.

Progressive Scan
  • Select 1080/25P for the REC FORMAT option in the setting menu RECORD SETUP screen enables shooting in progressive mode.
  • In 720 mode, the camera always shoots in progressive mode.
  • Shoot 25 frames a second.
  • This is converted to 50-field-per-second interlace.
  • This mode gives a lot higher quality image.

Manual Mode

  • Switching the camera's AUTO/MANUAL button onto MANUAL mode.
  • Focus Assist Button: During pre-production, this can help find the right focus for the main focal point. During filming, this button allows you to switch focus.
    • This button cannot be used when the zoom button is being used.
  • Stay in Manual mode, or it won't work. This allow us to use the IRIS dial, which enables us to adjust the aperture of the lens.
  • When adjusting the IRIS dial on manual, it allows us to over or under expose the image we are filming.
  • If the IRIS dial is on a low % (i.e 0-10%) it will be very under exposed.
  • If the IRIS dial is on a high % (i.e 50-100%) it will be very over exposed.
  • However, this depends on the type of lighting that is being used to film; if filming is being done with over/under exposed lighting, this button will allow us to correct the image.
